St Swithun’s Church Repair Project - October
By the time you read this report, the works to complete urgent repairs to St Swithun’s Church should be virtually complete, with the building being prepared to host the Harvest Festival Service on Sunday 13th October. Unfortunately, however, some internal painting of parts of the North and South Aisle walls can’t be undertaken until early November. For those interested, the pictures (above or below) show some of the repaired Chancel Roof Timbers and the work to improve the underground drainage required to stabilise some to the Churches’ walls.
The campaign to raise the funds to cover the Additional Chancel Roof repairs, the result of Death Watch Beetle damage, has now almost reached its target having been helped by the recent award of a £4,000 Grant from InvestSK. The PCC would like to thank all those who have made a contribution to the cost of the Additional Repairs.
Finally, 2 dates for your diary:
- A Church Re-Opening Celebration, to welcome people back to the building and to thank the all those who have made a contribution to the cost of the works, will be held on Sunday 24th November at 4pm.
- There will be a Heritage Lottery Fund sponsored pantomime in the Church on the afternoon of Sunday 1st December, when a production of ‘Aladdin’ will be performed by a Childrens’ Touring Theatre Company; entry will be free.
